Obeying God

This happened 6 months after I started my business.

I was bidding for this project against another 2 competitors. One of them is a reputable consulting firm and the other specialises in projects in my client's industry. As for me, I do not have reputation like the first consulting firm. Neither was I ever in that industry. I was desperate to get the project because my funds are drying up and this project would help me pull thru till end of the year even though it is 8 months away.

I worked through the work scope and determine the price I will be quoting to the client. Not longer after, I came to know the competitors' prices. Mine was not the lowest and the client was known to accept the lowest bid. Armed with these information, I was tempted to change my price so that I could secure the project. Then I held back. Because it is cheating. You may say that it how the business world works. Not for me. So after a long discussion with my wife, I decided to stick to my original price. We believe that we will get the project if God has planned it that way. If not, it means that God has something better for me. It may sound stupid at that particular moment but God was with us.

I clinched the deal in the end, against all odds and at a lower fee. The price that I quoted was for a bigger scope of work. As such, they already had it figured out that it would be cheaper to use me after downsizing my proposed scope of work.

Had I succumb to the temptation, I would have to settle for a lower fee for my services and I would have sinned against God for cheating and not having faith in him.

The story of the invisible bridge

My venture into business was all part of God's plan for my life. The business did not started with a bang. In fact, God has told me that he wants me to go into business through a dream when I was in my last second job.

In the dream, I saw myself in a building with my ex-colleague from the last 3rd job. As we were coming out from a room on the top floor, I asked how are we going to get out of the building. Somebody gave me 2 choices, the invisible bridge which is linked to the building via an opening along the corridor at the top floor or the staircase that will bring me to the ground floor exit. Being a risk averse guy, I took the stairs. As I reached the ground floor, I discovered that there was no way out. End of my dream.

I was offered a position in the last company I worked for before I started out my own business. I thought that was the message from the dream, because I got the job thru a search firm instead of direct application. After one year on the job, I received news that the company is going to wind down because the investors wanted to pull out. It was then I had the invisble bridge dream again. And in my dream, I remembered how I had the same dream and opted to walk down the stairs and did not manage to get out of the building. So I decided to use the invisible bridge this time and managed to get out of the building.

And I was glad that I followed God's instruction because immediately after registering the business, I got my first project.

Why I started this blog

In my walk with Jesus, I have received blessings and favours from God. I was very thankful to God for all these blessings. I was wondering how I could repay him and then the thought of telling others how HE has blessed me and my family would be a good way to thank Jesus for what He has done. And hopefully, I could reach out to the non-Christians by doing so. I certainly hope that it will also encourage my brothers and sisters-in-Christ and to remind them that God is always there to help them if they seek HIM.

God Bless you.
